This mind map, by Roy Grubb *, looks at many aspects of the placebo effect and aims to explain how the body’s different responses to illness can convince a patient that an inactive substance or a faked ‘treatment’ has been effective when the condition resolves.

The map is based on “The Poor, Misunderstood Placebo”, an article by Steven Novella in Skeptical Inquirer vol.34.6, Nov/Dec 2010.

The original map is here at the MindMeister site.
