Policies of WikIT

Policies cover the following:

  • acceptable content,
  • linking and promotional material,
  • copyright of work added,
  • copying WikIT material for use elsewhere,
  • language of content.

Content[edit]

The purpose of WikIT is to provide a resource to help in taming the torrent of information that knowledge workers have to deal with now. All entries that contribute to achieving that purpose in a clear and factual way that follow the policies below are welcome.

This is not Wikipedia with its “no follow” policy, but …[edit]

… naturally it is not a site for shameless self-promotion.

Serial spamming has made it necessary to restrict editing. Sorry about that, but we’d rather spend time adding useful new content than deleting spam pages. If you have something useful to add, please email it to: info [at] informationtamers [dot] com

Policy on linking and promotional entries[edit]

If you have a useful commercial product or service related directly to one of the topics covered in WikIT, then …

… submissions may:

  • Describe the product or service in neutral terms: Above all, please be factual!
  • Make one link to a relevant page

Submissions will not be considered if they…:

  • Consist only of a link or links.
  • Add hype, or links to pure marketing sites or to spam pages.
  • Add multiple links (unless there is a very good, stated reason).
  • Add affiliate links or link to “squeeze” pages.
  • Add off-topic material that rambles away from the topic addressed.

Policy on including mind mapping software[edit]

There is a simple (though large) list of free information mapping software with links and screenshots.

Other than that, please do not send descriptions of mind or concept mapping software to WikIT. This is mainly a techniques site, not a product directory. Anyway it would seem like a pointless duplication when there is already a site that covers this very extensively and in a neutral way at mind-mapping.org. An exception to this would be when a particular kind of mind mapping software offers something that others do not and you want to describe how to achieve something that would otherwise be difficult or impossible.

Policy on copyright[edit]

Your contributions[edit]

Please note that all contributions to WikIT may be edited, altered, or removed by other contributors. If you do not want your writing to be edited mercilessly, then do not submit it here.

You are also promising us that you wrote this yourself, or copied it from a public domain or similar free resource.

DO NOT SUBMIT COPYRIGHTED WORK WITHOUT PERMISSION OF THE COPYRIGHT OWNER!

This applies to images as well – if you submit images, they should either be ones you created yourself, or you should have written permission from the copyright holder.

Copying from WikIT[edit]

You may copy and re-use material from WikIT, provided that you state its source and link back to the page from which you copied it.

Please note the above refence to “page”: If you copy from several pages, you are required to link back to each of the pages copied from, and place each link close to the relevant text that was copied.

A link to the front page of WikIT is not acceptable as a substitute for the above.

Healthy discussions[edit]

WikIT is map-style neutral. In other words, it is here to help users of any type of information map find the best approach for specific circumstances.

Language is English[edit]

For now, WikIT is in English only. Please do not add content in other languages because the result will be confusing. Later we may add namespaces in other languages, but for that we shall need known volunteer editors who can edit and patrol for spam in the languages concerned.
