What they say[edit]
“The special thing about InfoRapid KnowledgeBase Builder is that the size of the Mind Maps is not limited and that they don’t get confusing even if they get larger.
While pure Mind Map programs are often limited to hierarchical trees, InfoRapid KnowledgeBase Builder can connect any item with any other. The program contains an archive for documents, images and web pages that can be imported and attached to any item or relation. As a Windows application, InfoRapid KnowledgeBase Builder runs locally on your PC. It stores all data in a database on your hard disk. It doesn’t make any Internet connection, so that your data will be secure, that’s what we stand for.”
Observations[edit]
This is a Windows desktop concept mapping application, and you can choose a data source for it to make a map or build a map from scratch … you can edit the map freely.
Makes a very respectable job of crawling a web site and mapping the result. Can build a map from an XML dump produced from MediaWiki sites. Also can import CSV, RDF, OWL, XMI, XSD and GED files. When crawling a site, Builder places a thumbnail image of the web page under each node. Click on that for a larger image.
For each topic that you add manually, you provide a name and can add a description. The description appears when you hover over a node. The map adjusts dynamically to an elegant layout as you build it. Also, click a topic and everything rearranges around it, much like 3D Topicscape, Personal Brain or Cayra.
You can add descriptive ‘linking phrases’ on relationship lines and select their colors, dotted or solid lines, and style of the ends, with or without arrows.
Files, images and web pages can be attached to nodes. Making a map from scratch with Builder involves frequent movement between mouse and keyboard – it is not possible to move around the map with the keyboard alone – so not the ideal brainstorming tool for fast idea capture.
There is also a free read-only viewer so that people other than the originator of the map can explore it without being able to make changes.
