Ranks and columns

You can change an important aspect of the layout: Both the 2D Map and the 3D 'Scape give you a choice of numbers of columns or ranks.

The usual arrangement is to have five columns or ranks of topics in front of the Current Topic. But you can choose to have four or six: Make sure you are in User's Mode (a button near the left hand end of the toolbar lets you change that), then in the tools menu, select Options | Appearance | Maximum number of ranks of children of Current Topic - select a number.

Alternatively, you can control the number of columns or ranks from the Quick options swinging panel on the right of the 'Scape:"Current Topic Ranks".
